Hello, blog world. I am a brand new, fresh faced first grade teacher. I just finished my Master degree this past spring and for the first time I have my own classroom!
A little about myself:
My name is Mallory and I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. I've lived here all my life!
I have a classroom of 20 first graders (so happy for the low numbers!) and am taking everything one day at a time. Last year I was helping a third grade teacher who was very pregnant and then went on maternity the last month of school. Before that I was doing my student teaching in first grade.
First quarter just finished and I have to say it was a lot more challenging in some ways than I expected it be, as well as easier in some ways than I expected.
For example, I have very few behavior issues that go beyond not listening or the fooling around with friends. Last year I had students that would refuse to participate, run out the door in the middle of class, throw tantrums, etc. So, this class makes me so happy in that sense!
However, this is the first time I'm arranging a curriculum on my own without a mentor and woowee with all the CCSS changes that there have been I sometimes feel over my head.
For my master program we were required to keep a blog, so I have a bit of blogging experience, but those were super private since they were part of our thesis. I missed being able to muse about my days and didn't realize what a fantastic community there was out there for teachers!
Mallory~
